Palm Tree Gimp Assignment

Color Me, Palm Tree,  & Your Choice Photo

This week the class will venture into the world of "GIMP".

GIMP an acronym for (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free and open-source raster graphics editor used for image retouching and editing, free-form drawing, resizing, cropping, photo-montages, converting between different image formats, and more specialized tasks.

 Palm Tree

 In this first project you will find photo a palm tree from Google. (large greater than 1000 x 1000 pixels) and modify the image with several different effects using Gimp  The following are the affects you will make to your photo.

• Colors - Hue Saturation (remember to click OK before next step)
• Tool Box - smudge tool 
• Effects- Light and Shadow - 
• Gradient and or Super Nova Effects - Artistic - Van Gogh 

When ready to save the modified image select "Export". Make sure your image is saved as a JPG or PNG.

To introduce the software you will be doing a few projects.

 Color Me

In this project you will take a photo of yourself using "photo booth" Import the photo into Gimp.

Using the pull down menu from top, make the following selections.

• Colors - Threshold - adjust image using the black triangle in the dialogue box. Select done to save changes.
• Tool Box - using the "pencil" with the size of 'one'. Make lines where needed.
• Tool Box - Select the "Paint Bucket"  A dialogue box will appear. Select color and pour the paint.

Using an image of your choice - Input into GIMP and be creative using some either some of the tools from the past two days or explore with something new.

W#2 April 22-25

The main emphasis for this week is the preparation and execution of the field trip planned by UJHS on Wednesday of the week.

We are working on four activities

Gardening
Animals
Games
Art

Wednesday - The visit by Upland Jr. High School was a success. The HHS students were awesome! The HHS students took charge of their events and everything ran smoothly.

Tuesday - Cont. with new student integration, OA Download 1971 Eathday TV Commercial Crying Indian.  Outside completed installation of nesting boxes, installed rafter support for bachelor pad, however may have been installed backwards.

Monday April 22 - Get new students from past week integrated on Blogspot. OA. Today is Earthday..When did Earthday start in America and what is it about.

Outside activity....relocate nesting boxes from within the shipping container and move into the chicken coop! Oops teacher forgot SD card for camera.

Q4 Week #1 April 15-19

This week should prove to be challenging and yet hopefully rewarding. Planned this week for Friday is a garden dedication ceremony, designed to acknowledge everyone who has participated in the development of the Hillside Family Farm garden.  Also, this week will be used to have students help design activities for a planned field trip to the Hillside Family Farm by Upland JHS scheduled for Wednesday April 25th.

W10 April 8-12

Week 10 is the last week of the third Quarter. Grades are due.

This week I will be asking the help of all classes in the preparation of the garden and farm for the dedication ceremony that is scheduled for April 19th at 11:00 am at the Hillside High garden. Also Ms. Haver found a new contact in Stater Bros. of Upland to supply greens!
